How to time block your day
- Set when your day starts and ends.
- Add what is already fixed first: meetings, calls, lunch, the commute.
- Put your most important work in the longest free stretch, ideally when your energy is highest.
- Batch small tasks (email, messages, errands) into one or two admin blocks instead of scattering them.
- Leave a little unplanned time as a buffer. Things run late.
- Print the plan, or download it and import it into Google Calendar.
Why time blocking works
A to-do list says what to do; a time block says when. Deciding when turns vague intentions into appointments with yourself and shows, before the day starts, whether everything fits. Usually it doesn't, and it is better to find out at 8 AM than at 6 PM.
When something runs over, don't drop the plan: move the remaining blocks and decide what gets pushed to tomorrow. The plan is a tool for choosing, not a promise.
Questions
Is my plan saved?
Yes, in this browser. Come back on the same device and it is still there. Nothing is sent to a server, so it doesn't sync to your other devices.
How do I get the blocks into Google Calendar?
Download the .ics file, then on a computer open Google Calendar, go to Settings → Import & export → Import and choose the file. Each block becomes an event on that date.
What size should a block be?
Long enough to finish something meaningful: 60 to 120 minutes for focused work, 15 to 30 minutes for admin. Shorter blocks for deep work rarely survive interruptions.
